Dental Crowns & Bridges Prairieville, LA
Sometimes, helping our patients achieve and maintain optimum oral health means repairing or replacing a tooth.
If you find yourself with a tooth in need of repair, you'll be pleased to know that Dr. Palm uses the highest quality materials to ensure that you receive an esthetically pleasing and highly functional restoration.
What Is a Dental Crown?
When you have a tooth that sustains an injury or becomes decayed or fractured beyond the capacity of a dental filling, Dr. Palm may recommend a crown to restore your tooth.
A crown replaces your entire tooth structure while protecting the integrity of your root. It’s comprised of customized porcelain that is designed to match your existing teeth and complete your smile in an esthetically pleasing way so no one will notice your dentistry, just your friendly appearance!
It typically takes two appointments to complete a crown. At the first appointment, Dr. Palm prepares your tooth and creates a temporary crown for you to wear while your permanent crown is being crafted at a local dental laboratory by a highly skilled technician. It takes a week or two for the lab to complete your crown, and then you will return to Palm Family Dentistry for your second appointment, when you will have it permanently placed.
You will enjoy the same function you had before, and you’ll be able to eat and chew with ease. You can also brush and floss your crown like a normal tooth, so it’s easy to care for.
What Is a Dental Bridge?
Patients missing one or more adjacent teeth might benefit from a dental bridge. This restoration uses crowns attached to healthy teeth like anchors to support prosthetic teeth that fill in the open space. A bridge is also custom designed to complete your smile naturally and provide function for eating and chewing.
Keeping the teeth that anchor your bridge clean and healthy with an excellent home care routine and regular dental checkups is essential in order to ensure the longevity of your bridge.
Dental implants can also be used to replace multiple teeth by supporting restorations such as a dental bridge, partial, or denture. In this scenario, dental implants become the anchor for your bridge or denture, which allows us to replace a few missing teeth or even an entire arch of teeth.
Implants can add more longevity to your restoration since they can potentially last for a lifetime. They also protect the health of your bone by keeping it stimulated. Denture wearers enjoy an even more secure fit with dental implants keeping the denture from moving or slipping while you talk or eat.
